Following the great success last year Greatersport will again be commencing the goal keeper academy this season, open to all junior Goalkeepers in the boroughs of Manchester. This initiative is being organised by Penny Moorfield, penny.moorfield@greatersport.co.uk Hockey Development Officer for Greater Manchester.
Last season Stockport sent down their budding young goalkeepers Colin Elcock, Tom Flint, Charlotte Dugdale and Natasha Getcheffsky on Monday evenings and they were put through their paces by some of the top goalkeeper coaches in the North West.
We asked Colin Elcock and Natasha Getcheffsky for some feedback. Natasha said she was put through her paces and was surprised at how much of the session was spent on warm up and fitness which re-enforced the importance of this to her. She said she enjoyed the session and she felt more confident which was useful as she had an U15 tournament coming up on the Sunday.
Colin enjoyed the activities with the goalkeeping kit on and found it challenging to run and pass back. Colin particularly enjoyed the "ministry of funny walks" in other words "dynamic stretches" where the goalkeepers stretched muscles they didn't even know they had!
