| Edgeley | 1 |
It took the last match of the season in the Stockport and District Women's Hockey League to decide who would take the runners up position. Edgeley took on Hadfield, and the match did not disappoint the spectators who turned up to watch, as both teams played their best hockey. It was a close match throughout and it was Edgeley who took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Viv Hudson's cross deflected off a defender's foot and into the goal. Hadfield created shots in the first half but Edgeley's keeper and PoM, Jeanne Woolston kept them off the scoresheet. In the second half Hadfield scored early on through Rosie Ashbrook's direct shot that beat the keeper at the far post. This was the breakthrough Hadfield needed to spur them on, and soon after they got a second from a short corner when Clare Atherton's shot was deflected past the keeper by the quick reactions of Charlotte Wilkinson. Edgeley pushed for the equaliser, but it never came and Hadfield held onto to their 2-1 lead at the final whistle. Hadfield have finished runners up in the league, and Heaton Ladies are this season's League Champions.
