Saturday 24th March - Stockport’s Fundraising Hockey Tournament

Stockports Fundraising Hockey Tournament

The Stockport & District Women’s Hockey League held its 2nd Charity Tournament on Saturday 24th March 2007 and raised £293 for Beechwood Cancer Care. Players and supporters from all the Stockport hockey clubs took part in the tournament. Money was raised from entrance fees, raffle, tombola and a cake stall (someone’s 93 year old grandma makes the most fantastic butterfly cakes ever!).

It was noted that the final match of the day was sabotaged, with one of the teams having 18 players on the pitch against the opposition’s 11 players. Also the winner’s trophy, which had been handmade with care from paper Mache and tinfoil, was stolen from the winners by one of the other teams. Despite some players’ questionable tactics on the day, it was Beechwood Cancer Care that was the overall winner, and a big thank you to everybody who contributed to a fantastic fun day of hockey.
