30th SeptemberGreater Manchester Team Match ReportREDDISH FALL TO BOLTON ACCURACY
Tesco car park was where the second match of the season for the Manchester team began and after a navigating disaster to get to the ground which included a run in with the police and stopping on the motorway to fix a faulty door, Reddish were finally ready to take on their next opponents, Bolton Ladies 2nds. The game got underway with reddish attacking right from the start, with a strong run from Jenny Worth putting Bolton under pressure straight away. This surprised Bolton as they were forced to concede a number of long corners which made their way into the Bolton D and caused unrest in the Bolton defence. Reddish saw lots of the ball at the beginning of the match and attacked from all areas of the pitch using the space on both wings to put pressure on Bolton. However the Bolton defence absorbed the constant reddish attack and it was Bolton who got the first goal of the game, albeit an own goal by Reddish. With Bolton now leading by one goal to nil, it was in Reddish’s best interests to get back on level terms and they did so with a well constructed piece of play. The ball was worked up from defence and with a clean strike, Lisa Hornbury opened up her Reddish goal scoring record shooting into the bottom right corner, to make the score one-one. It was imperative at this point that reddish kept their concentration
as the match lead into half time, yet Bolton exposed the defence and in
doing so Reddish gave away a number of short corners. This led to the
second goal for Bolton. A strong drive from the top of the D earned them
the lead at half-time and made the score two-one. With everything to play for in the second half, reddish decided to adopt a more attacking style of play and would try to take on the Bolton defence. Strong runs from Jenny Worth and accurate passes from Andrea Gilson helped the reddish caused but focusing on attacking play left gaps at the back of the reddish defence, of which Bolton were quick to capitalise. Direct hits through the centre of the defence resulted in two quick goals for Bolton. Two clean strikes from the same player put the result of the match beyond all doubt and the score quickly became four-one. Reddish were lucky not to go more goals behind if it wasn’t for goal keeper Andrea Getscheffsky. After giving away a large number of short corners, Andrea came to the rescue and reddish were more than eager to get the ball out of their own half. It was another short corner which led to the fifth goal which cam close to the end of the match. Despite the score being 5-1 to Bolton, reddish performed 100% better than in there opening match of the season. The match was an excellent example of two teams who will fight for every ball and it was agreed by all to be an excellent game. MOM – Jenny Worth
