9th Septembrt KenwothyStockport Team Match ReportREDDISH TAKE HOME KENWORTHY TROPHY
The Kenworthy Tournament starts a new season in the Stockport & District Women’s hockey league. It is a round robin tournament where all the teams in the league compete for a place in the semi finals. This year , Reddish Green, Hadfield, Heaton and Edgeley came out as the top four , Stockport failed to show and Forest were nudged out. Games are 12 minutes long and a draw allows extra time of 10 minutes for a golden goal before a penalty flick knock out. In the first semi Heaton surged forward on mass and encircled Edgeleys defense, Jenny Foster claimed her spot and a fierce shot took Heaton through to the final. The second semi final saw Reddish Green and Hadfield compete. In the first 5 minutes the game was fairly even and both teams managed a fast saunter. Nearer to the whistle Louise Preston faced a one on one and was brought crashing down by Reddish keeper Andrea Gechesffsky to finish with a 0-0 draw. In Golden goal time Reddish upped the pace to plague Hadfield`s goalie until Lucy Cook tapped in the ball and pushed Hadfield out. The final between Reddish Green and Heaton was the main attraction and this showed as both teams played their best match of the tournament. Heaton were fast and slick but could not put the ball away. Defender Rachael Dunners held the ball for Reddish and passed forward. Charlie Sims seized the ball at the top the circle, a superb flick lifted her shot upward above gasping opponents to land neatly in the top right hand corner of the Heaton net. Jubilation led Reddish to claim another when Jenny Worths sliced the ball past Heaton`s keeper for Reddish to win the Kenworthy 2-0. Thanks. Justina Maddock
