26th February Match Reports
Stockport 7 aside tournament reportReddish fielded three teams Reddish Red, Reddish Blue and Reddish White. Probably the best match of the tournament was Reddish Red v Reddish Blue. The Reddish supporters were so loud the umpires could not make the whistles heard. The match saw a lot of head to head play between Becky Schofield and Charlotte Taylor. The Reddish Red attack ( Becky Schofield, Jenny Worth and Natalie) struggled to make head way against the Reddish Blue defence (Julie Plant, Julie Gavin) and the Reddish Blue attack ( Charlotte, Jenny Plant, Amy Gavin) struggled to make head way against the Reddish Reds defence (Jenni Cottam and Adele). The game saw some excellent goal keeping from Julie Gavin. Reddish White had a harder time of things as were drawn into group with Heaton and Edgeley A. Julie Wheeler bravely volunteered go in goal, Helen Ashpool and Biggsy worked really hard and Michelle Turner put in a really good performance but they were unable to prevail against the other teams in the group. Reddish Reds made it through to the semi-finals but were knocked out by Heaton who claimed a rather dubious goal to equalise in the first ten minutes. The game the went into to 10 minutes of golden goal time but with Reddish Reds beaten back into defence it was only a matter of time before Heaton took the match. Heaton went on to win the 7s in a penalty flick knockout
between them and Hadfield. |
