Stockport Team Match Report - Edgeley v Reddish

Edgeley v Reddish. From the start Edgeley were the stronger team and Reddish looked liked they were in for a bashing. Reddish could not get it together and the ball scrambled amongst players. Defender Helen Higgs did some excellent jab tackles to stop many Edgeley shots on goal. But ineviatably Lisa Horbury scored first for Edgeley and Debbie Mole was quick to make it 2-0 at half time.

In the second half Reddish gave Edgeley a shock when Amber Brydens cross was leathered in by Gavin from mid circle. Now in their stride the Reddish forward line used the pitch well and piled the pressure on Edgeleys defence. Gavin cheekily flicked the ball across the goalie to reach Bryden who was waiting unmarked on the post for a neat tap in. A superb turn around by Reddish left the match level and Reddish pressed for a winner. However Edgeley needed the points to retain their joint top league position and shifted their game up a gear. A scuffle in the circle saw Debbie Mole put Edgeley one goal in front. Edgeley had regained the upper hand and just to make sure Mole slammed home a further goal to put Edgeley in a comfortable lead. Then Lisa Horbury did a great run down the centre of the pitch which drew out the Reddish goalie and left Horbury free to shoot at an empty net. Horbury was awarded a penalty when her shot was saved by a defenders toe. Debbie Mole took up the penalty spot and expertly flicked the ball into goal. Reddish held it together and quickly gained back possession, Gavin went on to score another. A riveting match ended 5-3 in Edgelys favour. Lisa Dalby was player of the match.
