Lancashire Team Match Report - St Helens v Reddish
A very friendly match and a good introduction to the Lancs side for many of our younger players, Amber Bryden, Ellie Duke and Susan Elcock who all played exceptionally well. The teams we evenly matched and at half time the score was 1-0 to St Helen's despite some excellent scoring opportunities for Reddish where Jenny Plant playing left wing nearly managed to chip-in two crosses from Becky Schofield. A configuration change at half time, with Holly Howarth moving into the centre forward role, saw Reddish come out on to the pitch and play a much stronger game. We kept possession of the ball and made many more chances on goal. We soon equalised but just as soon were one goal down as St Helen's doggedly fought back after the equaliser and scored from a short corner. Despite some very determined play and a lot of time in their circle we were unable to equalise again and the match finished 3-2 to St Helen's. Amber performed exceptionally well and rose to the challenge of playing a full match at this level as we were left shorthanded yet again. I can't help but feel the out come may have been very different if we could get some commitment from Reddish Club members to actually play on the Lancs side. The standard of Hockey is high, the games are fun and YOU all voted to have a team in the Lancs! So why won't YOU play on the team? It will never be the best team if people won't play on the team!
