Reddish made their mark this week with a 2-1 win over Stockport. Jenny Cotton
and Maggie fiddlers defence saw off early advances by Stockport in the Reddish
circle. With the match on an even keel Reddish pushed hard and made the
breakthrough. Julie Gavin clinched Reddish`s first goal of the season and
squeezed the ball past the keeper during a scramble in the circle. In the second
half Stockport were forceful in advance. They were quick to seize upon Reddish`s
open defence and Thorpe found the equaliser. It was now or never and Reddish
responded by racing from the halfway line down to the goalmouth. The well
matched partnership of Jenny Worth and Amber Bryden (12) saw Brydens goal shot
into the awaiting net. Reddish`s youngest player secured her teams second goal
and their first victory.

Reddish A |
v |
Aintree |
5 - 1 |
As expected Aintree were a strong opposition team that gave the us no quarter,
even though they were playing with only nine players. We managed to contain them
in the first half and at half time the score was one all thanks to Jenny Plant
putting the final finishing touch to some great team development play. However,
Sarah Wantling our goalkeeper sustained an injury in the first half. She
aggravated the injury in the second half successfully defending the first of two
penalty flicks awarded by the Aintree umpire. After
the penalty flicks Reddish lost focus and the game deteriorated. It briefly
picked up again towards the end of the second half when Reddish managed to get
back into attacking mode but Helen Elcock the team captain, who normally plays
right back, failed to score at an open goal and the final score was
5-1 to Aintree.
