WE'RE STAYING UP

DATE FIXTURE RESULT
02/04/06 Reddish v Glossop 2 - 2

The match started late due to a kiddies football tournament dragging on in the rain and one or two Reddish players rolled in at the last minute having popped out to Morrison's in despair of ever getting on the pitch.

The first half opened with Reddish on the attack, with a number of strikes on goal being repelled by the Glossop keeper Melissa Baker. The half then turned into an end to end game of cat and mouse. Reddish and Glossop both having a number of goal chances beaten strong defence and by the keepers who both had an awesome game. On the odd occasion the ball beat the Reddish Keeper Sarah Wantling, as she pushed forward to shut down the play, defender Helen Elcock was there to clear the ball off the line. The first half ended with a 0-0 score line, the match still open to either side.

The second half opened with Glossop on the offensive but they were neatly repelled by Reddish Defence and Jenny Worth took the play to them. The first goal for Reddish came soon with a scramble in the net finding Jenny Plants stick who put it away! Play continued end to end at a ferocious pace.

Glossop piled on more pressure and the Reddish defence responded but sadly Helen Higgs took a ball in the face as it bounced up off her stick. She had a nasty cut above the eye which needed stitches so was taken to the local hospital by the Glossop 1st keeper who was watching the match.

Glossop continued to attack and were finally rewarded with a goal when Cheryl Wilson found the net. A number of chances made by Barbara Chaplin were effectively shut down and it wasn't long before Reddish were back on the offensive. Following a lot of action in the Glossop D, Reddish managed to score off a Short corner converted by Jenny Worth. Again Glossop came back and in the closing minutes of the game managed to equalise from a short corner as Cheryl Wilson's strike narrowly missed the keeper and found the net between a defenders legs on the line.

The score draw was sufficient to secure Reddish in the 2nd division.  The result of the match the day before when Reddish Beat Moss Park had already ensured Glossop were going down.  The result against Glossop ensures Bury and Elton 2s now can't catch has also been relegated.

NB it rained all the way through the match and everyone was thoroughly soaked by the end.
