Reddish win 7-a-side trophy

The Stockport and District Women's Hockey League's annual 7-a-side tournament took place this weekend. The group stage was between the 10 competing teams. Reddish won all but one of their group games, losing out one-nil to Stockport in their only defeat. Lucy Cook and Jenny Worth were on top form as they got the goals to help Reddish through to the semi finals. Heaton A and Heaton B topped the first half of the draw and together with Stockport, Reddish finished in the top two places of the second part of the draw.

The semi-final between Heaton A and Reddish was a tight game. After the initial 10 minutes it was 1-all, with Rachel Dunley getting the goal for Reddish after some skilful play down the wing from Jenny W. Heaton quickly equalised though and it was a tense affair as the teams entered into extra time. With the golden goal ruling, both teams wanted to get that break through and within a minute of the extra time, it was all over when Reddish’s Lucy Cook scored the winning goal, to make it to the final.

In the final Reddish's forwards made the early running with some swift and skilful attacking play. Heaton B, who won their semi over Stockport, also had some promising counter-attacks where the Reddish defence looked exposed. Yet it was the relentless attacking play by Reddish that produced the first goal, scored again by in form player Lucy Cook. Constant attacks lead to Reddish’s second goal added again by Cookie with a few minutes to go. At the final whistle it ended with a 2-0 victory to Reddish who became this season's winners of the Enid Ellis Trophy. Well done girls!!
