BURY & ELTON ADD TO REDDISH MISERY

DATE FIXTURE RESULT
14/01/06 Reddish v Bury and Elton 1 0 - 2

Reddish continued their poor run of form in the Greater Manchester League with another loss, this time to a confident Bury and Elton side. However despite facing a high flying Bury side, the first hard was very even with both sides having a number of opportunities to take the lead.

Reddish would look to attack down the wings and use the speed of their young wing players to catch out the bury defence. The passes out of the Reddish defence to the sides of the pitch would be were reddish got most of their joy as crossed into the Bury circle producing a number of short corners. These were unlucky not to be converted and the Bury keeper was protected by her defence. Bury also had a number of opportunities to take the lead but with more attacks from open play rather than from short corners.

The quality of play from the Reddish forwards helped to keep the ball in the Bury half for much of the first half and prevent them from scoring, but it was from the openness in the midfield which allowed Bury to build up their attack and put pressure on the reddish defence. Yet despite the wide spaces in the midfield and no conversion from the Reddish forwards, the score at half time remained goalless.

The second half was very much a different story and Bury and Elton showed why they are doing well in the league, creating numerous opportunities created from constant pressure. They could have taken the lead early in the second half were it not for a goal line clearance from Adele Lumsden from a close range shot. This seemed to spur Reddish on an they went on the attack with excellent link up play from defence to attack earning a few penalty corners and were unlucky not to level the scores.

Yet despite the scoring opportunities Bury and Elton had a third gear and the rest of the game was spent with reddish defending. Bury had numerous opportunities to double their lead and finally did so after a drive from the middle of the sneaked its way past Natalie Sutherland on the line, who tried so hard to keep the ball from crossing the line. Bury were leading two goals to nil and this prompted more Bury attacks. They came very close to scoring at least five more goals with flash drives and sneaky taps across the face of goal. Nevertheless the Reddish defence held firm and was determined not to let any more goals past them. This was helped thanks to the reddish keeper, Andrea Getcheffsky, who was it not for her heroics the score may have a lot higher.

Reddish had difficulty getting the ball out of their half in the second phase of the game and they had relatively few chances to score, as the experience of the Bury side showed. Yet reddish didn’t give up and an excellent game from the defence made sure that Bury left the game frustrated despite winning 2-0 but Reddish need to start winning soon if they are to survive this division
