10th December Match ReportsGMHA Team Match ReportREDDISH USE THEIR ADVANTAGE
After a morning victory in the Stockport League against Hadfield, the early evening set in and Reddish were ready to take on Glossop in the Manchester league. With Glossop starting the game at the bottom of the league, reddish would look to take their attacking style to Glossop. And what a start!! Reddish were faster out of the blocks than Glossop and runs straight through the middle of the pitch from Jenny Worth and down the left wing from Jenny Plant helped put Glossop on the back foot. The pressure was constant and Lil Plant was rewarded for her good work after an excellent run down the wing was finished with a skilful reverse hit into the far side of the goal. .An excellent goal, and one that opened the flood gates for Reddish. The attacks continued, the passing was fluent and everybody knew what to do. Sweet passing movements using all of the pitch, enabled reddish to attack the Glossop defence from all angles and Reddish were further rewarded when a fiercely struck shot from Jenny Worth increased the Reddish lead to two. Glossop though would not go away and their centre pitch attacking style kept the defence on their toes, yet long corners were the only thing awarded and the defence held firm, despite some close calls. Reddish continued to play exciting hockey continued throughout the first half and the team continued to attack the Glossop ‘D’ and Lil Plant got her second of the game with a flicked shot into the top left corner. The second half started very much the same for both teams; Reddish attacking and Glossop defending. The passing still flowing, the defence keeping strong and the attackers running their socks off, enabled Reddish to force Glossop to concede a penalty corner midway into the second half which was converted by Lucy Cook (who nearly took the Glossop goal keeper out in the process). Even with the lead now at four goals with no reply from Glossop, Reddish continued to attack and put pressure on the Glossop defence. Space seemed to appear from nowhere and all you could see were Reddish attackers wanting the ball, wanting to increase the lead. Even the Reddish keeper was getting involved with a booted clearance the whole length of the pitch unlucky to not be converted into a goal. However despite a number of penalty corners and shots on goal, with rebounds just not being able to be converted, the game finished with Reddish winning four goals to nil. Reddish worked hard in order to keep a clean sheet as Glossop did not go away but the win will increase the Reddish confidence in a challenging league Rachel Dunley | ||||||||||
