22th October Match ReportsGreater Manchester Team Match ReportREDDISH FIND THEIR FORM
Reddish really found their form for this weeks match with everyone on the team playing at 110% and we saw some excellent fast moving hockey. The first half was very evenly matched with both Reddish and Manchester Uni 3rds having equal possession. Reddish nearly managed to open the score sheet early in the game when Jenny Plant on the near post connected with a cross but her flick at the net just scraped the wrong side of the net. It was Manchester Uni that managed to score first, 21 mins into the game. Sarah Waterhouse ran forward, beat the midfield and found space in the D to slice a raised ball at the net. The ball at knee height was intercepted by a defenders stick but unfortunately deflected into the net. Reddish soon got an equalizer, less then 10 mins later, after a series of short corners finally saw one converted as Lucy Cook smacked a ball in from top D. The second half opened with both teams 1 goal each. Part way through a substitution by Man U saw the pace of the game increase and Man U started to see more of the possession. A tussle in the Reddish D nearly saw Man U go into the lead. The Reddish Keeper, Sarah Wantling went down with one of the defenders and one of Man Us forwards. While the players struggled to get up, play continued and a shot over the head of the prone players found the net. However the goal was disallowed as dangerous play as it narrowly missed the players on the ground. Reddish still had plenty of scoring chances as Jenny Worth ( man of the match ) made the most of every clearance from defence and which a mixture of speed, individual skill and team play that made the forward line a force to be reckoned with. The pace increased still further in the final minutes of the match with Man U really pilling on the pressure, but Reddish defence held strong and the game finished 1 - 1. Well played everyone. | ||||||||||
